## Rembrücken Kindergarten Undergoes Renovation and Remodeling

Rembrücken Kindergarten, a beloved institution in the community, is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation and remodeling project. The work, which began in December 2024, aims to improve the facility's infrastructure, safety, and overall appeal for the children and staff.

### Cause of Mold and Initial Repairs

The project was initiated after discolorations on the base in the hallway of the U3 care area were discovered during the summer break in 2024. These signs were indicative of mold growth, primarily due to insufficient ventilation and humidity buildup within the building. Other contributing factors included poor insulation and water infiltration. Immediately upon discovery, the affected area was sealed off, and the children were moved to another group room.

### Scope of Renovation and Remodeling Works

The renovation and remodeling works encompass several key areas. Mold-infested areas are being removed and treated to eliminate health hazards. The ventilation system is being upgraded to prevent future humidity and mold problems. Repairs and improvements to the insulation and waterproofing of walls and roofing are also being undertaken.

Interior refurbishment includes new flooring, paint, and fixtures, while modernizing classrooms and communal areas is a priority. The project may also involve extension or restructuring to improve space usability and compliance with safety standards.

### Expected Completion Date and Total Estimated Costs

The renovation and remodeling works are scheduled to be completed by **September 2025**. This timeline allows for thorough remediation, construction, and final safety inspections before the new school term begins.

The total estimated cost for the project is approximately **€1.2 million**. This budget covers mold remediation, structural repairs, system upgrades, interior refurbishment, and related labor and material expenses.

### Outdoor Area Redesign and New Features

The outdoor area of the kindergarten is being extensively redesigned. A new balancing parcours, a slide, and a permanently installed sunshade will provide children with exciting opportunities for play and protection from the sun on hot days. The existing sandpit will receive an additional water tap, and numerous new play areas have been created for the U3 children, including a paved Bobby car track, a mini-playground with sand fall protection, and a new sandpit with a sand elevator and mud table.

The slide will be integrated into the new hill structure at the kindergarten, and the adjacent green area, which has been used as a construction site, will be restored after the completion of construction work. The boundary to the play area of the older children was created with a wooden fence with an integrated drawing board that can be used from both sides.

The city conducted air quality measurements to ensure there were no health risks, and the project is progressing as planned with the completion of construction work expected in May.

  1. What about the focus on health and wellness at Rembrücken Kindergarten? The renovation project also includes improvements to the ventilation system, aiming to prevent future mold issues and promote a healthier environment for children and staff.
  2. In line with the emphasis on education and self-development, the outdoor area will be redesigned, featuring a new balancing parcours, a slide, and a sunshade. These additions will not only stimulate physical fitness and exercise but also encourage mental health, providing children with opportunities for play and learning.
  3. The renovation process at Rembrücken Kindergarten is not limited to health and wellness or fitness and exercise; it also seeks to further the children's education by incorporating elements of environmental science. The restored green area, for instance, will serve as a living laboratory, encouraging the children to learn and explore the environment around them.
