Renowned Grammy Award Winner Set to Lead Park University's International Music Center Orchestra in Upcoming March 4 Performance

On March 4, 2022, the Park University International Center for Music (ICM) Orchestra will present its third concert of the 2021-22 season. The event will feature Grammy Award-winning guest conductor John McLaughlin Williams at the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Parkville Campus, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Admission to the concert is free, but reservations are requested by emailing Gus Fernandez Agreda at the ICM's website. Masks are required while inside the Chapel during the concert.

The concert programme includes Felix Mendelssohn's "String Symphony No. 13 (Symphoniesatz)" and Jean Françaix's "Symphonie d'archets (Symphony of Bows)", a virtuosic composition. The concert will also feature Frank Bridge's "Lament", a poignant piece originally written in memory of a 9-year-old girl lost on the sinking of the Royal Mail Ship Lusitania in 1915.

In memory of those who have passed away due to COVID-19, the ICM Orchestra will perform "Lament" as a tribute. Another selection to be performed is George Frederick McKay's "Suite on 16th Century Hymn Tunes", which includes the lush arrangement of some of the more austere hymn tunes of Reformation composer Louis Bourgeois.

John McLaughlin Williams, an acclaimed violinist, pianist, and chamber musician, won the Grammy for conducting the Cleveland Chamber Symphony with Angelin Chang as soloist on Olivier Messiaen's "Oiseaux Exotiques." In 2007, he became the first African American conductor to win a Grammy Award. He has also arranged the National Song of the Cayman Islands, which is used at public events in the British Overseas Territory.

The concert's schedule and more information about Park University's International Center for Music can be found on their website. For precise and up-to-date information on this concert's details, ticketing, and health safety measures, it would be best to consult the official Park University International Center for Music website or contact their administrative office directly.

Attendees of the March 4 concert at Park University's International Center for Music (ICM) can engage in both a moving tribute to victims of COVID-19 and the exploration of music's educational and self-developmental potential. After the concert, those interested in further learning about music history or the ICM can visit the center's website for more information.
