Road accident-free day in Sprockhövel/Ennepe-Ruhr district - Encouraging road safety from a young age
On September 17, 2025, Police Officers PHKin Sonja Vatheuer and PHKin Alexandra Kovacs visited the Gennebreck Elementary School in Sprockhövel, marking the beginning of a special lesson on safe school commute for the 27 newly enrolled first-graders.
The aim of this action was to help the young students navigate their daily school commute safely and confidently, using retroreflective materials to enhance visibility, especially during darker months. Each child received a bright red, reflective cap donated by the local traffic safety association.
The children, along with their teacher, walked together to the church in Herzkamp, practicing safe street crossing and identifying potential hazards along the designated school route. This hands-on approach aimed to emphasise the importance of retroreflective materials in traffic and visibility.
The Ennepe-Ruhr District Police Headquarters, led by Torsten Sziesze, the head of the press department, is the authority responsible for the commemoration of Zero Traffic Deaths Day, which is commemorated by the Ennepe-Ruhr District Police and the North Rhine-Westphalia Police on September 18, 2025. The shared objective of both police forces is to ensure no one dies in traffic accidents.
