During the meeting, Superintendent Jeff Jones expressed his excitement for the upcoming "Check and Connect" sessions. These sessions, planned for Tongue River Elementary School and Big Horn High School on September 22 and 23 respectively, aim to reinforce strong school-family partnerships by sharing information and keeping communication open.
Erika Stutzman, a new student representative, reported on happenings at her school, while Walker Mitchell did the same for Big Horn High School. Notably, TRHS is currently working on homecoming preparations, with Mitchell providing updates on the event.
Ryan Fuhrman, the new Principal of Big Horn High School, presented to the board and shared his intention to focus on the values represented by the school's crest and motto in his role and among students. Fuhrman also proposed a new motto for the school: "We kind of dominate everything we do."
In an exciting development, Fuhrman has also created a crest for Big Horn High School, which features a Latin motto: Bravery, Honor, Heart, and Scholarship (BHHS).
In addition to the presentations, the board approved several policies, the 2025-2026 bus routes, and two early graduation requests. Superintendent Jeff Jones also plans to offer incentive pay to teachers who substitute teach during their planning periods, as a means to support staff and ensure smooth operations.
Looking ahead, the next SCSD#1 Board of Trustees meeting will take place on October 21 at 6 p.m. at the Central Office in Ranchester. In an interesting twist, the following meeting will be held in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Lastly, the board voted to elect Morgan Stalick and Brian Davidson as voting delegates to the WSBA. Meanwhile, the student council at Tongue River High School is gearing up for the upcoming school year, ready to make a positive impact in their community.
