The city of Lünen has inaugurated a new school building for the Realschule Lünen-Altlünen, marking a significant investment in the future of children and education in the region. The new building, completed on September 3, 2025, is a KfW-40-EE building, equipped with a photovoltaic system, battery storage, heat recovery, and a green roof.

The permanent stage installed in the new building is designed for theater performances, concerts, and communal singing, offering a unique space for students and the community. The school's modern facilities include differentiation rooms for small group work, state-of-the-art digital equipment for iPad classes, and new meeting places like the auditorium and cafeteria.

To improve learning conditions, modern soundproofing measures have been implemented throughout the building. The new school also features a comprehensive barrier-free concept, ensuring accessibility with an elevator, ground-level access, and guidance systems.

Democracy education holds a fixed place in the new school building, with an annual project about the 9th of November prepared across different grade levels. The initial budget for the project was 13.5 million euros, but it eventually exceeded 30 million euros due to various factors, including delays, labor shortages, and legal disputes.

Mayor Jürgen Kleine-Frauns acknowledged the increased costs, stating that they are largely due to the framework conditions under which municipalities build. He expressed gratitude to the planners, builders, administration, and teaching staff for their collective efforts in bringing the project to fruition.

The new school building was necessary due to the old one not meeting fire safety regulations. The mayor emphasized that investments in education are essential and will yield benefits for future generations. He reiterated that the new school building signifies investments in safety, quality, and the future of children.

The city of Lünen is delighted with the successful completion of the new school building and views it as a modern home for Realschule Altlünen. The mayor emphasized that the new school building is a significant investment in the future of children and education in Lünen.
