### Success Stories: Sustainable Cooking Project at Mittelweiden Kindergarten
#### Showcasing Children's Culinary Talents
The Sustainable Cooking Project at Mittelweiden Kindergarten, a Caritas Association Koblenz-run facility, has been a resounding success. Over the past ten months, the kindergarten's after-school children have embraced the opportunity to discover sustainable foods, unknown spices, and try new dishes.
During the project, the children have prepared an array of dishes, such as healthy fruit skewers, whole-grain noodles with spicy sauce, fresh bread with dips, and baked oatmeal with berries. Each week, their culinary creations were showcased at the laden table, where they took pride in their accomplishments and sat together to enjoy their meals.
#### A Collaborative Effort
The project's success can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of the Sarah Wiener Foundation, Barmer Health Insurance, and kindergarten educator Melanie Priesteroth. The foundation and insurance company have provided financial support, educational resources, and expertise to enrich the kindergarten's culinary education.
Melanie Priesteroth, a Caritas employee, has been actively working as a culinary ambassador in the kindergarten, guiding the children through their cooking experiences and emphasizing the importance of these activities for personality development.
#### Cultivating Skills and Values
The Sustainable Cooking Project at Mittelweiden Kindergarten offers much more than just a cooking class. It serves as a platform for children to develop essential life skills, such as independence, teamwork, and responsibility.
The project also fosters a deep appreciation for sustainable and child-friendly nutrition, as well as an understanding of the environmental impact of food choices. Through hands-on experiences, children learn about the importance of using seasonal, regional, and organic ingredients, promoting a mindful relationship with food from an early age.
#### A Hub of Discovery and Accomplishment
The kindergarten organizes project days for children to discover new things and gain a sense of accomplishment. These project days, which include visits to farms, shopping training in supermarkets, and cooking classes, have been instrumental in the success of the Sustainable Cooking Project.
As the project continues, the children at Mittelweiden Kindergarten will continue to learn, grow, and thrive, all while enjoying the benefits of a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.
