Southern Russia Sees Surge in Educational Loans, Boosting University Admissions
In southern Russia, August 2025 witnessed a surge in educational loans, with students and applicants securing a combined 1.2 billion rubles. This marked a significant increase from the previous year.
The trend was particularly notable in Stavropol Krai, which had the second-highest number of loans issued, totaling 140 million rubles across 674 contracts. Krasnodar Krai led the region with nearly 3,000 loans worth 588 million rubles. Rostov Oblast followed closely with 632 loans totaling 126 million rubles.
The demand for these loans has been growing, with a 50% increase in the first 8 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year. Over 10,700 students from southern regions and the North Caucasus secured loans, a significant rise from the previous year. The average age of borrowers is under 25, but interest among older students has doubled. The total volume of loans issued in the first 8 months reached 2.2 billion rubles, a 1.5-fold increase from 2024.
The surge in loans also led to a rise in admissions to top universities and colleges. Over 8,000 applicants from southern Russia and the North Caucasus were admitted with state-supported loans. The volume of loans issued in July and August 2025 increased more than 2.5 times compared to the same period in 2024, with the DNR seeing a substantial jump from 101,000 rubles to 3.6 million rubles.
The increase in educational loans in southern Russia mirrors a growing demand for higher education and a willingness to invest in the future. With more students securing loans and gaining admission to top institutions, the region is poised for a more educated and skilled workforce.
