Student at Grand Canyon University Establishes Coffee Shop to Boost Moods

In the bustling heart of Grand Canyon University, Chloe Mohatt's Easy Soul Cafe is making a refreshing impact on students' lives. The coffee venture, named in honour of a dear friend who tragically took her own life, serves as more than just a place to grab a caffeine fix—it's a sanctuary for human connection and love.

Mohatt, a senior business management major at Grand Canyon University, has infused her cafe with a unique touch by crafting her own syrup flavours, such as cherry vanilla, cake batter, cinnamon roll, and honey lavender. Her innovative creations have been met with great enthusiasm by both students and family members, who have provided valuable input in the development of her drink offerings.

Despite facing competition in saturated markets like Scottsdale, Mohatt remains undeterred. She is currently working on obtaining the necessary licensing and paperwork to sell at farmer's markets, with hopes of setting up shop there this summer. Moreover, she is considering establishing her business in the West Valley, particularly at City Center in Surprise.

Mohatt's commitment to her community extends beyond the realm of coffee. The suicide rate in her hometown of Kalispell, Montana, has seen a concerning increase from 2019 to 2021, with seven students in the Kalispell Public Schools system losing their lives to suicide during a 16-month span from May 2020-August 2021. Mohatt believes her community has faced spiritual warfare due to this high suicide rate and wants to create a lasting legacy for her friend.

To combat this issue, Mohatt plans to donate 10-20% of Easy Soul Cafe's proceeds to college ministry to help fight suicide and depression. She serves on the Christ Church college ministry leadership team and has been actively involved in promoting mental health awareness through events both on and off campus, as well as in her parents' neighbourhood.

Easy Soul Cafe's first foray into the world of Marketplaces resulted in $17 in earnings after expenses. Despite this humble beginning, Mohatt has since made her coffee business more profitable by paying off all equipment and a coffee cart. With her unwavering dedication and passion, Chloe Mohatt's Easy Soul Cafe is poised to make a significant impact in the lives of many, offering more than just a great cup of coffee—it's a symbol of hope and resilience.
