Student from Elgin Community College apprehended by ICE, college confirms

The arrest occurred in the morning in a parking lot outside a main campus building, causing a ripple of concern among students.

The president of the Elgin Community College Faculty Association, Dan Kernler, expressed shock about the arrest. Another student shared similar sentiments, expressing concern about their safety and the safety of other students, adding that they thought college campuses would be safe from such activities.
Kernler further believes that college students and their families should never be separated due to their immigration status. He also stated that this incident underscores the need for comprehensive immigration reform.
In response to the incident, Elgin Community College is offering confidential support and resources through their student support offices. The school is also in communication with local legislators and community leaders regarding this matter.
