The Madera Unified School District (MUSD) has officially launched its Summer Squad summer camps, providing a STEM-based program along with a variety of other enrichment activities. The camps, running from Monday through Friday during the summer, aim to keep students engaged and ready for the upcoming school year.

The Summer Squad camps offer a well-rounded experience, with students rotating through a variety of activities including STEM projects, arts, and outdoor adventures. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, making education fun and dynamic while fostering creativity.

One such camp is the Science Safari, led by Growth Point Technologies. Aaliyah Mendez, a student going into sixth grade, is currently attending the Science Safari camp and expresses her enjoyment, describing it as fun and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to participate.

The Science Safari camp includes a week-long STEM-based program, with students participating in hands-on activities in chemistry, biology, engineering, and earth, focusing on rocks and minerals. On the first day, students engaged in science experiments and exploration, and each student was given a geode to break open during the experiments, revealing bright and sometimes sparkly crystals inside.

Suzanne Dudney, the district Director of Expanded Learning Programs, hopes that the immersive STEM approach may help students find a new love for science. The camps, held at Sierra Vista Elementary, aim to provide an authentic camp atmosphere with adventure and enriching fun.

Registration for the remaining camps is still open; interested parents should call the MUSD Expanded Learning Office at 559-481-4880. For news updates, follow Jessica Harrington on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The MUSD's Summer Squad camps provide an enriching, well-rounded summer camp experience with a clear STEM focus supported by arts and adventure, aimed at fostering creativity, skill-building, and continuous learning.
