The benefits of re-learning skills in light of artificial intelligence advances

In a world where technology is rapidly evolving, a study by The Adecco Group reveals that only 11% of today's workforce is genuinely prepared for the future, with the necessary adaptability to navigate uncertainty and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

However, there's a silver lining. By 2030, employers project that 41% of their workforce will not require additional training, indicating a shift towards roles that demand advanced AI, data, ethical, and human-centric skills.

Vietnam, in particular, is well-positioned to fully develop AI talent. With government support, international collaboration, and an influx of foreign experts, the country ranks 6th out of 40 countries and territories in the AI Index released by the Worldwide Independent Network of Market Research (WIN) in July 2025.

AI is a key factor in the process of innovation and accelerating economic development in Vietnam. However, to strengthen the workforce and related startups, it needs support from many sides.

The Future of Jobs 2025 report found that the three fastest-growing roles between 2025 and 2030 are big data specialist, fintech engineer, and AI and machine learning specialist. Emerging roles emphasizing uniquely human skills such as AI ethicists, auditors, trainers, and integration specialists are also growing as AI adoption demands ethical oversight and human-AI collaboration.

Conversely, roles involving repetitive, routine tasks easily automated by AI, such as data entry clerks and telemarketers, are projected to decline. The workforce impact varies by industry, with the most affected sectors including technology, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and sales.

In Vietnam, 86% of businesses are eager to invest in workforce training. Companies like HSBC offer employees a wide array of learning opportunities, spanning topics from AI and Data to sustainability, tailored to various skill levels.

The World Economic Forum predicts that over the next five years, accelerating technology, the green transition, and broader economic and demographic shifts will create 170 million new jobs while displacing 92 million, resulting in a net gain of 78 million roles by 2030.

Interestingly, farm work is projected to see the largest absolute growth by 2030, with an estimated increase of 35 million jobs, largely due to the green transition. Clerical roles such as cashiers, ticket clerks, administrative assistants, printing workers, accountants, and auditors, on the other hand, are expected to decline.

In summary, the AI-driven transformation leads to a displacement of millions of repetitive-task jobs but a simultaneous creation of more new roles requiring advanced AI, data, ethical, and human-centric skills. Job losses are concentrated in routine and data-heavy roles, while growth is strongest in AI development, system oversight, and creative or strategic functions augmented by AI.

These shifts underscore the need for continuous upskilling, especially in AI literacy, data analysis, and human-centric skills such as ethical oversight and creative problem-solving, to thrive in the evolving workforce.

  1. As AI adoption increases and advances, continuous upskilling in AI literacy, data analysis, and human-centric skills such as ethical oversight and creative problem-solving will become crucial for personal growth and education and self-development.
  2. In the future, the workforce will require a transition from repetitive, routine tasks to roles that demand artificial-intelligence, data, ethical, and human-centric skills, like AI and machine learning specialists, AI ethicists, and integration specialists, emphasizing personal-growth opportunities and the need for education and self-development.
