The Hong Kong Jockey Club introduces JC Project MuSE, an initiative aimed at nurturing comprehensive development in economically disadvantaged primary school students by means of music and sports.
Unleashing Potential: JC Project MuSE Brings Music and Sports to Underprivileged Kids
Step aside, parents, because your kid's after-school schedule just got a massive upgrade, all thanks to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and their groundbreaking initiative, JC Project MuSE. With an approved donation surpassing HK$400 million, this six-year project offers underprivileged primary school students in Hong Kong's less affluent areas a chance to explore their passions in music and sports.
Inspired by the globally renowned El Sistema model, JC Project MuSE strives to ignite a spark in children's hearts for the arts and sports from a young age. Their mission? To provide equal opportunities for growth and learning, regardless of family income, and support the holistic development of participating children.
The birth of JC Project MuSE was celebrated with the Project MuSE Concert held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on April 17, 2025. This event brought together students from JC Project MuSE and musical talent from programmes supported by the Club. The guest list at this momentous gathering included HKSAR Government Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-ki, Club Chairman Michael Lee, and JC Project MuSE Advisory Committee Convenor Jat Sew-tong.
Addressing the gathering, Michael Lee highlighted that sports & culture is a top funding area for the Club's Charities Trust. By offering a diverse range of music and sports education and performance opportunities, JC Project MuSE aims to empower primary school students in underprivileged communities, enhancing their confidence and sense of self-worth, while fostering their holistic development.
And the incredible opportunities JC Project MuSE offers don't end there. The project's ultimate goal is to reach more than 8,000 students in less affluent districts over the next six years. With a focus on tailored programs in music and sports, participants can expect to develop both their artistic and physical literacy through sustained training and mentorship. Plus, showcasing their talents during performances provides a much-needed confidence boost and a chance to shine!
In the long run, JC Project MuSE wants to nurture lifelong passions, ultimately supporting Hong Kong’s role as a cultural hub under China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. To achieve this, the project collaborates closely with government bodies like the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, as well as sector experts, to ensure scalability and effectiveness.
So, there you have it — an incredible opportunity for underprivileged children to explore their passions in music and sports, all thanks to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and their innovative JC Project MuSE. Let the music and sports education revolution begin!
