Thousands Protest in Morocco, Demanding Better Health and Education Services

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Morocco, demanding better public health insurance and education services. The demonstrations, organized by the online youth collective GenZ 212, were sparked by the deaths of eight pregnant women at a hospital in Agadir. Three protesters were killed during the unrest, with authorities blaming their actions. Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch offered dialogue and promised to address the protesters' demands.

Protests erupted in cities across Morocco, including Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, and Agadir, with no reports of unrest. Demonstrators called for an end to corruption, freedom, dignity, and social justice, with some urging the prime minister to step down. GenZ 212, which organized the protests, distanced itself from violence and vandalism, asserting its love for the homeland and king but standing against certain political parties.

Since the demonstrations began, hundreds of mostly young people have been arrested. Health Minister Amine Tehraoui acknowledged gaps in the health sector and announced reforms in response to the protesters' demands.

The protests in Morocco highlight growing discontent over social inequality and inadequate public health services. The government has offered dialogue and promised reforms, but it remains to be seen how these demands will be addressed. The online youth collective GenZ 212, which organized the protests, has gained significant traction, with over 150,000 members on Discord.
