Tuition costs waived for students whose yearly family income falls below $200,000 at the university.

Interim President Leah Ward Sears of Emory University recently announced the launch of a new financial aid program called the Emory Advantage Plus. This initiative aims to provide tuition-free education to students whose families earn less than $200,000 annually, starting from the fall of 2026.

Currently, Emory University's estimated cost of tuition for the 2025-26 school year is $33,540 per semester, or $67,080 annually. The new program is expected to significantly reduce this financial burden for many students.

The Emory Advantage Plus program is not just an expansion of the university's financial aid plan but an expansion of opportunity, dreams, and what's possible at Emory, as stated by Sears. This program will be eligible for new and returning undergraduate students who meet the income requirements.

The original Emory Advantage program, started in 2007, was designed to assist students from families with lower incomes. In 2022, the university expanded the original program by replacing need-based loans with institutional grants and scholarships as part of undergraduate students' financial aid packages.

Nick Wandrick, a junior at Emory, currently uses a music scholarship and loans to pay for school. He expressed that getting free tuition would be a significant help, allowing him to allocate scholarship money towards housing, meals, and reducing future debt.

For the academic year 2026 at Emory University, the student household income threshold to qualify for free tuition typically depends on need-based financial aid policies, which often cover students from families with incomes up to approximately $100,000 or less. However, specific income cutoffs for free tuition in 2026 are not provided in the search results.

Over the next four years, Emory University's undergraduate financial aid commitment will exceed $1 billion. Sears expressed optimism about the future, stating that the future has never looked brighter, and this is only the beginning.

The program's aim is to attract great students without considering the cost and to alleviate the burden of crushing debt, as Sears stated. This move is expected to make Emory University more accessible to a broader range of students.

Roughly 3,100 students currently receive benefits from the Emory Advantage program. With the introduction of the Emory Advantage Plus program, many more students are expected to benefit from this initiative, making Emory University a more inclusive and diverse community.
