University of Greenwich Unveils cutting-edge XR Ecosystem at SHIFT Center

The University of Greenwich, located in London, has taken a significant step forward in the realm of extended reality (XR) research and education with its LEDWALL project. At the heart of this initiative is the 100% European VP XR ecosystem at the SHIFT (Shared Hub for Immersive Future Technologies) center.

This innovative ecosystem, unique in its kind, boasts several key features that set it apart. It is built around 100% European-made XR components, ensuring high compliance with European standards and fostering local technological expertise and innovation. The system integrates Visual Production (VP) technologies tailored for XR environments, encompassing virtual, augmented, and mixed reality applications.

Moreover, the ecosystem's modular and scalable design allows for flexible configuration, making it suitable for research, education, and content creation purposes. It employs advanced LED wall technology, such as the Alfalite Modularpix Pro 1.5 ORIM, offering high pixel density, modular construction, and high brightness and color fidelity, all essential for delivering crisp, high-definition imagery in immersive XR experiences.

The ecosystem also integrates with powerful XR content creation, rendering, and interaction tools, supporting collaborative and immersive digital experiences. These benefits culminate in enhanced immersive learning and research environments at the University of Greenwich, fostering innovative teaching and exploration in XR fields.

The LEDWALL project at the University of Greenwich also includes solutions from Alfalite, Mo-Sys, and Brompton. Mo-Sys is responsible for the supply and integration of solutions, having integrated its StarTracker Max systems and other XR solutions for a complete VP XR solution. The Brompton SX40 and XD Unit LED video processors manage the LEDWALL, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.

The University of Greenwich's SHIFT center aims to be a pioneer in the study and development of advanced audiovisual technologies. As part of this mission, the institution will offer employment and internship opportunities for students in the competitive film industry. Additionally, it will design virtual production training programs for industry professionals.

The University of Greenwich's LEDWALL project continues to be the only 100% European VP XR solution in existence. The institution will also participate in research and knowledge exchange projects to identify new products in the audiovisual sector. The SHIFT center is utilizing the Alfalite Modularpix Pro 1.5 ORIM VP XR LEDWALL for the creation and display of XR content.

Luis Garrido Fuentes, managing director of Alfalite, expressed excitement about the potential contributions of their LED technologies to the advancement of research and education in audiovisual content. The University of Greenwich's LEDWALL project remains a significant milestone in the institution's commitment to pushing the boundaries of XR technology and education.
