US Renewable Energy & EV Momentum: North Carolina's Wind Project, Texas' Winter Power Test

North Carolina is exploring a new wind energy project while Texas, a major hub for electric vehicles (EVs), braces for winter power challenges. Meanwhile, solar and EV initiatives gain momentum across the US.

In North Carolina, regulators held a scoping meeting for a proposed 45-turbine, 189 MW wind project. The project, spanning 6,300 acres of mostly agricultural and forested land, could boost the state's renewable energy portfolio.

Tesla, Inc., a leading EV and charging station provider, has its headquarters in Austin, Texas. The city's central location also attracted a Taiwanese electric charging company to relocate from California.

Volkswagen, prioritizing scarce semiconductor chips, ensures their allocation for electric vehicle production. In Florida, a solar advocacy group launched a constitutional amendment effort to protect rooftop solar and home solar installation rights.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper's executive order signals a shift towards plug-in electric vehicles in the state. A Mississippi city has approved an electric vehicle charging station installation behind its city hall.

As winter approaches, some Texas gas suppliers are offline, potentially affecting 1,400 to 1,500 MW of power production. Texas power grid operators and natural gas drillers are preparing for winter weather to test recent grid reforms.

In Virginia, lawmakers advanced a bill imposing a $250 penalty for non-electric car drivers parking in spots reserved for electric cars. A Texas city utility received grant funding to install 10 electric vehicle charging stations.

These developments highlight the growing momentum for renewable energy and electric vehicles across the US. As winter approaches, Texas' power grid faces challenges, emphasizing the need for robust infrastructure and planning.
