USA for UNHCR Launches $15M Campaign to Boost Refugee Women's University Education
USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency's American arm, has launched a $15 million campaign, 'Building Better Futures'. The initiative, co-chaired by Jessica de Rothschild, daughter of Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, aims to boost university education for refugee women and girls.
The campaign, launched with $3.1 million in early lead gifts, will provide 1,000 university scholarships through the DAFI Scholarship Program. This program, running since 1992, has already supported over 27,200 refugee students across 59 countries. The 'Building Better Futures' campaign seeks to increase the number of refugee women in university by 20 percent by 2028.
The campaign takes a hands-on, holistic approach. It focuses on building supportive communities, reflecting a commitment to comprehensive support for refugee women and girls in higher education.
With the 'Building Better Futures' campaign, USA for UNHCR and Jessica de Rothschild aim to significantly increase access to university education for refugee women. The campaign's success will depend on further donations, with $11.9 million still needed to reach the $15 million target. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of education in empowering refugee women and supporting their communities.
