Park University News: March Edition
In the latest developments at Park University, here are some noteworthy updates:
Sports Accolades
Earnest Myles III, a member of Park University's men's basketball team, has been selected as the conference Defensive Player of the Year. G Rodrigue Marthone and Cory Reeves, also from the team, earned All-Conference first team honours. Additionally, Marthone was selected as the conference Newcomer of the Year.
Academic Recognition
Park University's programs have been ranked highly in various fields. The Top 50 Supply Chain Management Degree Programs ranked Park No. 17, while the Top 41 Online Master's in Adult Education/Learning Programs placed Park at No. 8. The Top 50 Interior Design Degree Programs ranked Park No. 15, and the Top 50 Master's in Reading and Literacy Degree Programs ranked Park No. 26. Park was also listed as being the Best for Military History for schools in the State of Missouri.
Art and Culture
William Eickhorst, an adjunct instructor of fine art at Park University, will have an art exhibit in the Campanella Gallery from March 8 to April 23. The International Center for Music Concert will feature "Witness: A Retrospective Featuring the Art of Jason Pollen and the Music of Park University's International Center for Music" on March 5. Pianist Behzod Abduraimov will perform in a concert rescheduled from March 3 on March 6.
Academic Achievements
Katie Ervin, Ed.D., has been appointed as the associate vice president of strategic alliances at Park University. Stacy Johnson was promoted from assistant director of online operations to director of FAST at Park University. Mohamed Abualhaija, Toni-Rochelle Ford, Adrian James, Ph.D., and Greg Moore, D.B.A. were approved for promotion and/or tenure by Park University's Board of Trustees.
Alumni Achievements
Edna Martinson, '12, has been named in Forbes magazine's first class of the "Next 100," an initiative that showcases entrepreneurial heroes across the country. Sophia Pretrick, '94, was honoured with a new International Anticorruption Champions Award. Carneysha Mendoza, '16, a U.S. Capitol Police captain, testified in front of the U.S. Senate Rules and Administration Committee and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee regarding security failures during the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Crystal Young-Haskins, '07, M.E. '11, was honoured with a Legend Among Us Award as part of the sixth annual Arkansas Heritage Celebration of Black History Month.
Community Engagement
Daryl Forte, '90 (and 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient), was featured in a Black History Month story that aired on WDAF-TV in Kansas City. Terry Lovelace, '79, was interviewed on "Into the Parabnormal," a nationally syndicated radio program. Roland Alforque, a junior criminal justice administration/security major at Park University's Hill Air Force Base (Utah) Campus, was highlighted for being the first Air Force civilian to use the new Civilian College of the Air Force program. Nada Meawad, a women's volleyball player at Park University's Parkville Campus, was featured in a story in Al-Haram Hebdo, a French language newspaper in Egypt.
Academic Events
The Spring II Term begins on March 15. The Student Research and Creative Arts Symposium will take place virtually from April 19-20. The Honors Convocation is scheduled for April 21, and the Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards will take place on April 14, both virtually.
