WEST BENGAL Joint Entrance Examination Results for 2025 to be Declared the Day After Tomorrow - Key Points to Remember
West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 Results Delayed Due to Legal Dispute
The eagerly awaited West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 results have faced a delay due to a legal dispute over the inclusion of 77 new castes in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation list by the West Bengal state government.
The Calcutta High Court intervened in the matter, initiating contempt proceedings against the state government and the WBJEE Board, citing irregularities and a violation of an earlier court order related to the OBC list changes. The court ordered the WBJEE Board to withhold the results until the matter was resolved and directed the board to prepare a fresh merit list with a 7% OBC reservation within 15 days.
The delay in the results, initially scheduled for June 5 and then August 7, has been postponed multiple times due to these judicial proceedings.
The state government added the 77 new castes to the OBC list without sufficient justification, which the High Court deemed unconstitutional. Candidates filed complaints, prompting the court to take suo motu cognizance and start contempt proceedings.
The Supreme Court temporarily stayed the High Court's order against the revised OBC list, clearing the way for results declaration. However, the High Court later halted the results pending appeal and contempt proceedings.
The WBJEE Board was instructed to prepare a new merit list incorporating 7% OBC reservation before releasing the results. The Principal Secretary of Higher Education was also summoned for clarification in court.
