Landshut, a city in Bavaria, Germany, has embarked on an ambitious project to foster science, education, local government, and civil society collaboration. The project, named "Zukunftswerker" (Future Makers), was founded by the city and district of Landshut, the University of Landshut, the Agricultural Museum Landshut, the Dom-Viertel-Zentrum, the MINT-Forum Bayern, and Silicon Vilstal. Funding for the project, which extends until August 31, 2027, is provided by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Transport.

The Future Makers project offers a variety of out-of-school, free, and engaging MINT (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Technology) activities for children and young people aged 8 to 16. These activities, which include the MINT Wednesday events at Silicon Vilstal, provide hands-on stations for children to explore and experiment with 3D technology, robotics, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, or laser technology.

Weltacker Landshut is spearheading a project titled "MINT on the farm and in the kitchen," which combines nutrition education, practical agriculture, and scientific experimentation. This nature-based approach to the MINT world aims to create an accessible and engaging learning environment for all.

Silicon Vilstal's Ideenwerkstatt initiates children's creativity and supports it with modern technology, offering regular workshops, an annual experience festival, and MINT Wednesday events showcasing future-oriented university fields. The already established MINT service center in municipal sponsorship will continue to play an important role in coordination, network maintenance, and organization.

The project's second phase, titled "Future Workers - All Talents in MINT," has been approved by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space until August 31, 2027. The focus of this phase is the expansion of proven offerings and the establishment of sustainable structures. The MINT workshop and service center are intended to provide a permanent location for extracurricular MINT education.

The goal is to set up the project structurally and financially for the future, involving municipalities, educational institutions, companies, and civil society actors. The alliance includes the University of Landshut, World Farm Landshut, Neighborhood Center Dom, MINT Forum Bayern, and Silicon Vilstal.

An important project is the permanent establishment of a MINT mobile in the region, bringing together themes of nutrition, natural sciences, technology, and informatics under one roof. The MINT Forum Bayern operates a mobile workshop named "MINT on the go," bringing MINT education to municipalities and schools with on-site coaching and practical training.

The DOM neighborhood center is developing the "MINTerkulturell" sub-project, targeting children and young people with a migration background, as well as girls and young women, with lab formats in mathematics and nutrition, tutor programs, and creative offerings. This sub-project aims to provide a low-threshold access to MINT topics on an equal level.

The MINT on the farm and in the kitchen project from Weltacker Landshut uses a flexible modular system to convey contents such as food production, ecology, or sustainability independently of location and season. The Ideenwerkstatt at Silicon Vilstal offers playful learning opportunities about new technologies such as Extended Reality, Artificial Intelligence, or Coding.

The Future Makers project aims to provide a long-term, practical, and comprehensive MINT offering for children and young people in the city and district of Landshut, including rural areas. The partners aim to establish and network MINT initiatives in the city and district of Landshut, securing and expanding these offerings for the future.
