Writing Sessions Focused on Self-Reliant Writing Projects Held at the Writing Hub
In this article, I share my experiences with writing my Senior Thesis and Junior Paper (JP) as I reflect on my journey through independent research.
Independent Research Journey
During my time at the University, I had the opportunity to delve into independent research, a challenging yet rewarding experience. My Junior Paper (JP) was written in the field of SPIA (School of Public and International Affairs), and my Senior Thesis was a testament to the hard work and dedication required for such projects.
Workshops and Resources
The journey of independent research is not one that is undertaken alone. To help guide me, I attended various workshops, including those held at Guyot 100 and The Writing Center. These workshops offered invaluable insights and resources, such as the "Defining your Research Question: Quantitative Projects in STEM and the Social Sciences" workshop this week, held on Thursday, March 1, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm in Guyot 100.
Upcoming workshops include "Putting it all together - structuring your thesis," scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm at The Writing Center, and "Crafting Your Research Proposal: Thesis," planned for Tuesday, March 13, from 4:30pm to 6:00 pm at The Writing Center. The workshops are open for sign-up and are aimed at individuals working on organized JP or Senior thesis projects, quantitative research projects, or seeking funding for their ideas.
General Resources and Opportunities
For those seeking more general resources, the Cambridge Future Scholar Program offers a variety of research courses in STEM, Business, Social Sciences, and the Humanities, with a focus on developing research skills and executing projects. The NSF STEM K-12 Program, while not specifically offering workshops, encourages multidisciplinary research and focuses on STEM education, including foundational studies and design-based research.
To find upcoming workshops tailored to your specific needs, consider checking university websites, professional associations, and online platforms like Eventbrite or social media groups. Institutions like the American Educational Research Association (AERA) often host workshops and sessions related to dissertation research, particularly in education and learning.
Acknowledgements Section Tips
When it comes to writing the acknowledgements section for a research paper, such as a Junior Paper (JP), it's essential to express gratitude to those who have contributed to your work. Be specific in your acknowledgements, thanking individuals by name and detailing the ways in which they have helped you.
In conclusion, independent research is a journey that requires dedication, hard work, and the right resources. I hope that my experiences and the resources I've shared will help guide you on your own research journey.
These workshops are being led by Ellie Breitfeld, the Chief Correspondent. The exact dates for the "Summer Funding Workshop" are not yet specified, but I encourage you to keep an eye on academic or research institution websites for updates.
Remember, the journey of independent research is unique to each individual, but with the right resources and guidance, it can be a truly enriching experience.
