Hanging Out with Vedang Raina at the Beach Clean-Up, Mumbai: A Chat About Gen-Z's role in Saving the Planet
Young Activist Vedang Raina Emphasizes Youth's Role in Change: Assertive, Voice Heard Loudly
Join us as we hang out with the dashing Vedang Raina as he partakes in a beach clean-up drive along Mumbai's banks of Mithi River. Here's what he has to say about his passion for the environment and Gen-Z's role in it:
"Getting grimy with your own hands is the only way to fathom the severity of the situation," shares Vedang, who's been a constant advocate for environmental causes. "Sure, we all chat about saving the planet from our plush sofas, but nothing beats the reality slap when you're on the ground digging up plastic waste."
Vedang believes there's immense prestige and satisfaction in being an environmentally-conscious Gen-Zer: "It's a humbling honor to be the face of this generation's voice, speaking out about issues close to our hearts. Sure, I may not be doing anything groundbreaking, but as a public figure, I'm using my platform to raise awareness about these critical matters."
The beach, once a prime Mumbai attraction, has lost its charm due to their sorry state, agrees Vedang: "I can't help but think about the sheer potential these beaches had—they were tourist attractions just waiting to happen. But sadly, that's not the case right now. We need to buckle down and get to work to restore the beaches, and in the process, mend our coastal areas and create a tourist-friendly environment."
Vedang strongly believes that Gen-Z, armed with technological superiority and a powerful voice, are the game-changers: "Whether we like it or not, the recipients of several catchy memes and TikTok dances, we're the ones ready to disrupt the status quo. With our activism and demanding nature, we're single-handedly turning the tide for environmental causes."
Fear of global warming consumes Vedang: "Global warming is menacingly looming, threatening to tear our planet apart. And it's up to us to put on our big boys and girls pants and take steps to combat it. It all starts with individual actions, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Collectively, we have to stride forward, working tirelessly to save our beloved home."
