Young scholars receive their diplomas at Karlsruhe Kid's University: Real-life classroom experience for budding researchers at KIT
KIT Children's University 2025: Inspiring Young Minds for Science and Research
In Karlsruhe, Germany, the KIT Children's University 2025 is providing an engaging and educational experience for children aged seven to 14. Organised by Ralph Pawlowski, a KIT employee responsible for talent promotion, the university aims to inspire young minds for science and research.
The current session kicked off with a lecture on "The forest and us," delivered by Dorothea Epperlein from Greenpeace Germany. Around 150 children, including Lilly, a ten-year-old student at the Johannes Kepler School, and returning participants Simon from the Goethe-Gymnasium and Jule from the Tulla-Realschule, showed great curiosity and asked many questions about the future of the forest. Epperlein expressed her pleasure at the interest of her young audience.
Throughout the KIT Children's University, the children have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities. These events are part of KIT's broader family support and children-focused seminars, which reflect a supportive ecosystem for children’s growth and education in Karlsruhe.
Pawlowski's enthusiasm for the lectures and activities is palpable in the lecture hall. He emphasised the goal of inspiring children for science and research, aligning with KIT's commitment to fostering the next generation of bright minds.
The KIT Children's University has a long-standing tradition, being one of the oldest among universities in Germany. Further information about the university can be found online at www.kinder-uni.kit.edu.
At the end of the semester, the children who have participated will receive a diploma, a testament to their engagement and learning. The university continues every Tuesday and Thursday until August 21, offering a unique opportunity for young students to delve into the world of science and research.
The KIT Children's University is part of KIT's family and children initiatives aimed at supporting children’s education, protection, and family engagement. These initiatives include a dedicated Family Portal providing support and information for employee and student parents, as well as online children's events facilitating knowledge and networking for families and educators.
In the spirit of supporting young residents and families in Karlsruhe, the KIT Children's University 2025 continues to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists and researchers.
"Exploring other avenues for education and self-development, the KIT Children's University offers online education opportunities beyond its on-site programs, encouraging young minds to delve into various aspects of science and research through digital means."
"Parents and educators who missed out on the current semester's in-person events can still engage with the KIT Children's University community by participating in numerous online learning platforms, further promoting the institution's mission of inspiring and nurturing young minds in science and research."
